Hey guys, as promised I’m going to let you into my secret of how to eat those naughty foods and savoir them to a max while at the same time keeping off the excess fat. You heard me right, and yes, it is possible, “but how?” you ask. Well after years of trying different diets and reaping the benefits of expert advice, I’ve finally cracked the code.

First, I would like to let you know what staying lean to me involves and means. As the title says, “staying lean”, that means you have to be lean to stay lean, this isn’t some sort of magic remedy whereby you can eat lots of naughty foods and ‘get lean’ that would be awesome but I’m afraid, impossible.

So, lean to me means having a fat composition of between 8- 12 % for men and up to 26% for women, that basically means you should be able to see a six pack or at least 2. Once you reach this level of fitness, to maintain it without having to follow a strict diet, limiting yourself to chicken and greens oh and the occasional cheat meal, all you have to do is follow my advice. I’ve been a fitness coach for over 15 years and trained professional athletes as well as being a professional bodybuilder, coming 3rd in the international #musclemania Miami and 2nd in Las Vegas 2016 competitions (quite impressive for my first year, if I don’t mind saying so myself). Anyway, enough of the self-flattering and back to letting you in on my secret.

So, you’re lean/slim/decent, basically at a level where you’re happy with the way you look and feel great in your body, and now you want to stay like this but are seriously tired of eating dry chicken and greens day in day out.

Here’s how you do it; firstly, limit your carbohydrates to the morning and before / after your workouts and if it’s a non-workout day then, 3 times a day. Those portions of carbohydrates should be the size of your fist (no more!). Secondly, protein should take up the size of you palm or slightly bigger, but no bigger than the hand. Thirdly, greens, yes, I said the dreaded word, greens! They should take up the size of your hand or the same as carbohydrates. Fourthly, fat should take up the size of your thumb (max). As for salads, well, you can eat that shizz until the sun comes out (meaning, no limits, if you didn’t understand my stupidity).

I know, you may be thinking well that’s nothing special, and you would be right. What I guarantee is that if you use this method of using your hands to measure your food, you will better manage your weight and you can forget about counting calories.

That’s not the whole part of the secret, in fact I’m saving the best to last, like the chocolate fondant after a nice steak and chips mmmmmmmm tasty. So here goes the icing on the cake, so to speak, I break my daily routine down like this;

80% of the time I stick to my diet of healthy food and 20% of the time I pig out on some naughty food, e.g. chocolate, crisps, dumplings, those types of things. So, I eat 6 meals a day, meaning at least 1 of my meals is a cheat meal. How do I do this, well, as I explained earlier, I eat carbohydrates 3 times a day, what I do then is replace the carbohydrates of one meal by the chocolate, crisps, or whatever I like (the naughty food), that way I’m keeping the balance (or there about) and I’m able to enjoy my naughty foods every single day!

To finish, I want to say that keeping lean is all about knowing your body, it’s also just as much a mental discipline as it is physical, if not more. Don’t beat yourself up for eating something naughty (delicious and fatty) as that will only cause you to fail I the long run, just accept your mistake and learn from it. It happens to me every week and I’m a pro bodybuilder, so really don’t get yourself down over eating a cake or fast food meal, we all do it. Just learn to forgive yourself and take the necessary actions to improve and move forward. We have enough stress in our lives as it is, don’t go adding any more.
